This study is focused on the study on media used by the teacher in teaching listening to the first year students of SLTPN 1 Gapura Sumenep. It is intended to know (1) The kinds of media used by the teacher in teaching listening to the first year students of SLTPN 1 Gapura Sumenep, (2) The students’ response toward the media used by the teacher in teaching listening to the first year students of SLTPN 1 Gapura Sumenep, (3) The problems that the teacher has in providing the first year students of SLTPN 1 Gapura Sumenep with the teaching media in teaching listening. In this study, the researcher used descriptive quantitative research and the subject of this study was English teachers and the first year students at SLTPN 1 Gapura Sumenep. To collect the data, the writer did some observation, gave questionnaire to the students and interview with the teachers. The data were analyzed descriptively. The results of this study showed that (1) the media used by the teacher in teaching listening were pictures, textbooks, television and VCD player. (2) 84% of the students gave positive response to the media used by the teacher. (3) two English teachers had three problems in providing the media. The first problem was related to the limited availability of the media. The second problem was related to cost of providing media. And the last problem was teachermade media. Since the availability of media in this school was limited; the teachers should be creative in creating their own media. However, the teachers did not have enough ability to create the media that were suitable with the students’ level.
