The objectives of this study were 1) to know the objective of teaching grammar at SMPN 4 Malang, 2) to know the topic was covered in teaching grammar at SMPN 4 Malang, 3) to know the technique of teaching grammar at SMPN 4 Malang, and 4) to know the technique of evaluation used in teaching grammar at SMPN 4 Malang. In this study, the writer used descriptive research because it described the implementation of teaching grammar at SMPN 4 Malang. Moreover, the writer took the two English teachers in the secondary year students at SMPN 4 Malang as the research subject. Meanwhile, the research instruments that were used by the writer to collect the data are interview and observation. The writer used semi-structured interview, because in addition to the questions that had been prepared before, the researcher would also asked for the questions during the interview about the implementation of teaching grammar at SMPN 4 Malang. Based on the result of the data analysis and the objective of this study, (a) the objectives of teaching grammar at SMPN 4 Malang were to help the students to be able to comprehend and to write sentence correctly, and to help the students to speak English well. Furthermore, the teachers focused on, tenses and how to arrange the sentence, (b) some topics were covered in teaching grammar at SMPN 4 Malang; Simple Past Tense, Simple Present Continuous Tense, Simple Future, and Degrees of Comparison were the topics that are used by the teachers. Moreover, from those topics, the students interested with the topics used verb 1. Meanwhile, the topics used verb 2 was less interesting for them, (c) the techniques in teaching grammar were EGRA (Explanation - Generalization – Reinforcement - Application), PGR (Practice – Generalization - Reinforcement), TPR (Total – Physical – Respond), and drilling, and (d) the technique of evaluation that was used by the English teachers at SMPN 4 Malang was written test. They also evaluated cognitive domain by giving the students written test and observing the student’s ability in comprehending the material, affective domain by observing the student’s activeness in class, psychomotor domain with the student’s speaking and writing skill.
