Abstract

Economy and monetary crises stricken Indonesia in the mid-1998s has negative effect on labor and job opportunity growth. So, the amount of unemployment is continuously increasing. Small industry assumed to be economy development priority having regard to other sector development. Small industry represents one of village people development strategies. Thus, it needs to be developed in order to increase job opportunity. This research has purposed to know what factors that become worker s reason to work at this small industry, to know how long the time they spent to work in this small industry, and to know how big the role of small industry income played on family income. The research method uses case study. Sample intake is conducted in quota sampling with 60 respondents as the sample, where 30 respondents are work in intestine chips industry and 30 respondents in tempe chips industry. Data is collected by using questionnaire and analyzed qualitatively. The research result shows that intestine and tempe chips industries do not demand many special requirements in recruiting worker, but they are emphasizing on worker disciplinary and diligence. While, the reason why workers enter this industry is they do not have certain education and skill. The submitted suggestion is the government should give more attention on intestine and tempe chips industry development by giving subsidy and counseling. While for the industrialist, it is expected to give more welfare to his/her workers by raising fee according to UMK.
