Abstract

Empirically, red ginger can be used to cure asthma, but it is still needed to be proven scientifically. This study aims at proving whether or not Red Ginger Extract (Zingiber officinale Roscoe.) could cause relaxation on the separated tissue of tendon of Rabbit’s trachea relaxation (Cavia porcellus) inducted by histamin. This is a purely experimental research by means of the Pretest­ Posttest control group design. The samples were 5 rabbits which were then classified into four groups. The first group was treated as control group in which we did not give any red ginger extract but histamin. On the other hand, the second, the third, and the fourth groups were treated at the same way by giving red ginger extract about 0,020%, 0,025% and 0,030% in its dosage by which they were inducted by indometasin first. The parameter measured in this study was how much the relaxation of the separated tissue of tendon of Rabbit’s trachea in the rabbit’s body was. The research finding showed that the giving of red ginger extract could significantly minimize the contraction on the separated tendon of rabbit’s trachea which had been inducted byhistamin (ANOVA, p = 0,000), and there was strong and significant relationship between red ginger extract and the relaxation reduction (r = ­0,843 and p<0,05). The minimized contraction on rabbit’s separated tendon was caused by the active effect on substances in red ginger extract, that was; 10­dehydroginger­dione, 10­ginger­dione, 6­gingerdion, 6­gingerol and capsaicin. The mechanism of 10­dehydroginger­dione, 10­ginger­dione, 6­gingerdion, 6­gingerol relaxation and capsaicin played a part as anti­inflamation which then caused the separated tendon relaxation of rabbit’s trachea. Besides that, was is also affected by atsiri oil and oleoresin which play a part as a means of relaxation the breath passage. In conclusion, it was empirically proven that red ginger extract could minimize the contraction power of rabbit’s separated tendon.
