The research came from the phenomena of tight competition in comedy program in some private television this latest days, which birth a comedy program in Trans7 television called “Opera Van Java”. This comedy is different with another comedy program, using concept, setting or properties that never existed in previous comedy program, so that this show could attract many people. Opera Van Java program assured by researcher had packaging which able to influence viewing interest to college students. Packaging is all activity to design and produce a package of effective product to introduce the product itself. Packaging is a way to increase company profit. That’s why a company should make an interesting package. By the interesting package, there hoped to attract and took consumer’s interest. While interest is an activity in form of intent attention to an object, whether in actual or not. It means that the attention could existed in sensible way to the object which used contemplating thought or imaginary object. Using the basic of AIDDA theory, there said that communication startedby taking attention would influence the successful communication. After attention, came interest which is a higher level than attention. Here is about interest to watch “Opera Van Java” program. From the thought, the researcher concluded statement of problems as: (1) is there any influence of “Opera Van Java” program packaging wiht college students interest to watch? (2) How large and how the influence pattern of “Opera Van Java” program package to interest in watching “Opera Van Java” program in college students? While the research purpose were: (1) finding out the influence of “Opera Van Java” program packaging with college student’s interest to watch. (2) finding out the influence of “Opera Van Java” program packaging to interest on watching the program in college students and also the influence. Research type used in this research was explanatory research with quantitative approach. Research object in this research was college students of Communication Science – Audio Visual UMM 2007, while the samples in this research consisted of 54 pople respondents found by purposive sampling technique, where the samples were selected based on certain criteria made by researcher according to research purpose. While people in this population which didn’t fit the criteria were not made as samples. Then the researcher spread questionnairre as primary data collector. Beside, the writer also used documentation technique to complete lack of data needed in this research (Secondary data). After research process, the questionnaire tested its validity using Product Moment Correlation and tested its realibility using alpha technique. Analysis used was regression analysis to find out influence pattern between packaging of “Opera Van Java” program with viewing interest in college students and determination coefficient analysis to predict the influence of X variable to Y variable. According to the research, there found correlation coefficient value 0,638, which meant there was relation between independent variable, that was the packaging of “Opera Van Java” program with watching interest variable in college students. According to F test and t test, there found Fcount 35,615 while in significance 0,05 found Ftable amounted 4,03 and tcount 5,968, while in significance level 0,05 there found ttable with value 2,00. It means that Fcount larger than Ftable and tcount larger than ttable so that Ho was rejected and H1 was accepted. It means that “Opera Van Java” program packaging had significant influence to students’ viewing interest. According to linear regression calculation, there found that contribution or independent variable influence of “Opera Van Java” program to dependent variable of viewing interest in college students was 40,6% and rest of them 59,4% viewing interest on Opera Van Java in students influenced by another unresearched variables.
