Abstract

Traffic accidents are one of the negative impact of transportation that the amount and quality always strived to be reduced. In Madison County is the line connecting the province of East Java and Central Java, this resulted in the provincial road network has become crowded and congested traffic will affect the performance of various elements of transportation systems (road users, vehicles, roads and environment) . The purpose of this analysis is to determine the level of accidents in Madison County, to investigate the characteristics of traffic accidents that occurred in connection with the main factors to determine the cause of accident and accident-prone locations in the district of Madiun. Accident rate in Madison County show that began in 2001-2005 has decreased. Characteristics of an accident in Madiun district, indicating the age of perpetrators and victims of the dominant accident is aged between 36-55 years (39.28%), perpetrators and male victims of accidents (81.76%), women (18.24%). The dominant type of collision is hit-and-forward (33.67%), a motorcycle is a vehicle that is often involved in accidents (34.24%), SIM Group is the most dominant SIM C (33.25%), professional actors and victims most involved in accidents are private (53.01%), education perpetrator and victim is the dominant high school (61.10%), accidents often occur at the time 15:00 to 20:00 hours (29.43%). The cause of most accidents were due to road user error (83.66%) to mistake the driver's careless road users (74.62%). The average speed of vehicles which occurred at the observation post at 73.51 km / h it is impacting on the level of the accidents, the most vulnerable section road accidents are on the streets of Surabaya-Madiun Km 141-142.
