Abstract

In daily life stress occurs in every person vulnerable to the intensity and extent vary. Work is one of the closest environment to generate stress. Journalists with the demands, high work pressure and the risk of a job with a condition that can trigger stress. Working as a journalist requires both professional qualification and psychologically so that they can survive with a stressful situation. This research is a descriptive qualitative study aimed to find out and get a picture of stress on a daily newspaper reporter. This research was conducted on April 5, 2006 to April 17, 2006 using eight subjects daily newspaper reporter in Malang. The procedure involves research pralapangan stage, the stage of field work and data analysis phase. The result showed that many things in this profession that can lead to stress that such time pressures and work demands are high. However, not as a whole because of work pressure journalists into prolonged stress though never experienced it. Stress on a daily newspaper reporter gives two influences. The first, is a positive influence (eustress) is diantarannya when the demands of work brings the spirit of productivity for both journalists and the influence of negative (distress), excessive work demands in turn lowers the productivity of a daily newspaper reporter. However, journalists have a strong resilience in the face of a stressful situation of being able to produktiv can work in high pressure situations. This is because, journalists in general love and animates their work and the fulfillment of some psychological needs while undergoing a job as a journalist. Journalists also coping to psychological and social adjustment in the face of pressure, most journalists do emotion focused coping in the face of stress.
